Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 13, 2025
Debt Notary ("us", "we", or "our") operates the Debt Notary mobile application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our Service.
Information We Collect
- Email address – used to create and identify your account
- Phone number (optional) – used for reminders or communication features
- Contact data you add (optional) – includes names, phone numbers, and email addresses of people you interact with (e.g., borrowers or lenders)
- Media files – only selected images you choose to attach as proof documents
Imported Contact Information
If you choose to import contacts from your device, the app:
- Only accesses contacts that you explicitly select
- Retrieves only name, phone number, and email address (if available)
- Allows you to review and edit the contact before saving
We do not access or store your entire contact list. You are responsible for having the right to store and use the imported contact information.
Connected Contacts & Shared Debt Notes
When you accept a connection request from another user, you agree to automatically receive debt records if the other party chooses to share them with you. This ensures both parties can maintain a synchronized view of shared debts, including updates, changes, and reminders, once sharing is enabled.
Notifications and Reminders
The app may send you reminders about your debt records. These notifications may include due dates, names, or other related information. You control when and how notifications are delivered — including in-app, email, or WhatsApp (Pro only). Notifications are strictly for app functionality and never used for advertising.
Media Access and Proof Images
When adding a debt record, you may attach images from your device. The app will only access the images you select — it never scans or accesses your entire photo library. Uploaded images are securely stored and only used in your personal records.
Crash Reports & Diagnostics
We use Firebase Crashlytics to help us identify and fix app crashes and technical issues. Crash reports may include information about your device (such as model, operating system, and app version). To improve troubleshooting, we may link crash reports with your account identifier (UID) and email. This data is used only for debugging and stability purposes and is never shared for advertising.
Analytics
With your consent, we may use Firebase Analytics to understand how you use the app, so we can improve features and overall experience. Analytics data may include actions you take in the app (for example, creating or completing a debt note), but never your private financial details. You can change your analytics preference anytime in the app’s privacy settings.
Advertising and Tracking
We use Google AdMob to display advertisements in our app. These ads help support our free service. Depending on your device settings, these ads may be personalized or non-personalized.
On iOS, we request your permission via Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. On Android, we follow your device and regional privacy settings. In some regions (such as the EU), we use Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to ask for your consent regarding personalized ads.
We do not share personally identifiable information (PII) with advertisers. For more information, see Google’s Advertising Policy.
Your Rights
- Access your data – You may request a copy of the personal data we store by emailing us at [email protected]
- Delete your account – You may delete your account at any time. This will permanently delete all your stored data and cannot be undone.
- Change consent – You may update your preferences for analytics, advertising, and notifications in the app settings at any time.
Data Usage & Legal Basis
We use the information you provide only to support the functionality of the app. We do not sell or misuse your data. Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), our legal bases for processing your personal data are:
- Contract necessity (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) – To deliver the core app functionality, including accounts, reminders, contact sharing, and debt management.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) – For optional features such as analytics, personalized ads, and certain types of notifications.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) – For maintaining app security, detecting fraud, and ensuring service reliability (e.g., crash reports).
Security
We take data security seriously and use appropriate measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but strive to protect your data using best practices.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with the updated date above. Continued use of the app means you accept the latest version.
